Things to Do in Cappadocia Beyond the Balloons: Classic Car Tour & Baklava

← Turkey

Short answer: Beyond the balloons, my two favourite things to do in Cappadocia are a classic car tour through the valleys (about €45–€130 per car) and a slow afternoon of baklava with Turkish tea or coffee.

At a glance

  • Classic car tour: about €45–€130 per car (up to 4 people), 1–2 hours, hotel pickup; photographer packages about €150–€450
  • Best time for the car tour: sunrise (balloons in the background, weather permitting) or sunset
  • Book through: GetYourGuide, Viator, Klook, your hotel or a Göreme tour agency
  • Dessert to try: baklava – my top pick; Turkish ice cream is optional

This is part of my 10 day Turkey itinerary, and these are the things to do in Cappadocia I would add once you have seen the balloons. If you have not seen the balloons yet, start with my first morning at Sunset Point.

1. Ride a classic car through the valleys

Cappadocia’s colourful vintage cars – think 1970s and 80s convertibles and old American sedans – have become almost as iconic as the balloons, and a Cappadocia classic car tour is now one of the most popular things to do in Cappadocia. A driver picks you up, takes you out to the viewpoints and valleys, and stops wherever you want for photos. With fairy chimneys behind you and an old car in front, it is the easiest way to get photos that look like a film still.

How much does a Cappadocia classic car tour cost?

  • Standard classic car tour: about €45–€130 for the whole car (up to 4 people), around 1–2 hours, usually with hotel pickup and drop-off.
  • Photographer package: about €150–€450 per car, with a photographer (sometimes also the driver) and a set of edited or unedited photos.
  • Vintage-style electric cars or trikes: cheaper, from about €20–€40, but these are small two-seaters and some are self-drive.

Prices vary a lot between listings, so check whether the price is per car or per person before you pay. Splitting one car between three or four friends makes a Cappadocia classic car tour surprisingly good value.

Cappadocia classic car tour booking

  • Online: search “Cappadocia classic car tour” on GetYourGuide, Viator or Klook. Read the reviews, check the group size and whether hotel pickup is included.
  • Through your hotel: most cave hotels in Göreme can book one for you, often for the next morning.
  • In town: tour agencies in Göreme sell them too, which is handy for comparing cars in person.
  • Timing: sunrise slots are the most popular, especially in spring and autumn, so book a few days ahead.

Tips for the classic car tour

  • Sunrise vs sunset: sunrise gives you a chance of balloons in the sky behind the car, but balloons only fly in good weather. Sunset is calmer and warmer.
  • Do not clash with your balloon flight: if you are flying, book the car on a different morning.
  • You will not drive: a local driver handles the car; you choose the stops.
  • Bring a layer: open-top cars at dawn are cold, even in summer.
  • Plan your outfit: light, flowing colours look great against the beige rock and the bright cars.

2. Eat baklava in Cappadocia (and maybe Turkish ice cream)

If you try one Turkish dessert, make it baklava. Paper-thin layers of pastry, crushed pistachios and syrup, crisp on top and soft in the middle. It was so good that I would honestly plan an afternoon around it, and eating baklava in Cappadocia after a morning in the valleys is one of the simplest things to do in Cappadocia. Order a small plate with a glass of Turkish tea or a Turkish coffee to cut through the sweetness.

  • Look for pistachio (fıstıklı) baklava – the classic, and my favourite.
  • Order by the portion or by weight; two or three pieces per person is plenty.
  • Pair it with Turkish tea (çay) to balance the sweetness.

Turkish ice cream (dondurma) is fun too. It is thick and stretchy, and the vendors love to tease you with the cone before handing it over. It is a good little show and worth trying once if you pass a stand, but I would not go out of my way for it. Baklava is the one I would come back for.

Things to do in Cappadocia: FAQ

How much is a classic car tour in Cappadocia?

Most classic car tours cost about €45–€130 for the whole car in 2026, for up to four people, for roughly one to two hours with hotel pickup. Packages with a professional photographer usually cost about €150–€450 per car.

How do I book a classic car tour in Cappadocia?

Book online through platforms such as GetYourGuide, Viator or Klook, or ask your hotel or a tour agency in Göreme. Book a few days ahead for sunrise slots in spring and autumn, and check whether the price is per car or per person. For more ideas on things to do in Cappadocia, the official Go Türkiye site lists sights and events.

Can I drive the classic car myself?

No. On standard classic car tours a local driver does the driving; you sit back, choose photo stops and take pictures.

Is the sunrise classic car tour worth it?

Yes, if you want balloons in your photos. Just remember the balloons only fly in good weather, so book a sunrise tour on a morning when you are not flying yourself, and treat the balloons as a bonus.

What Turkish dessert should I try in Cappadocia?

Baklava. Thin layers of pastry, pistachios and syrup, best with a Turkish tea or coffee. Turkish ice cream (dondurma) is fun to watch being served, but it is more of a show than a must-eat.
