10 Days in Turkey: Cappadocia, Antalya, Kaş & Fethiye Itinerary

Why this route

Ten days is enough to see Turkey’s two best faces: the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia and the turquoise Mediterranean coast. This itinerary skips Istanbul on purpose and spends that time on the coast instead: 3 nights in Cappadocia, then 2 nights each in Antalya, Kaş and Fethiye.

Getting there and getting around

Fly into Cappadocia, fly on to Antalya, drive a rental car along the coast, and fly home from Dalaman. Travel times below are approximate.

  • Home → Cappadocia: Fly via Istanbul to Nevşehir (NAV); the domestic leg is about 1 h 20 min
  • Airport → Göreme: Pre-booked shuttle, about 40 min from NAV or 1 h from ASR
  • Cappadocia → Antalya: Domestic flight, often via Istanbul, about half a day door to door
  • Antalya → Kaş: Rental car on the D400 coast road, 3.5–4 h
  • Kaş → Fethiye: Rental car via Kalkan and Kaputaş Beach, about 2 h
  • Fethiye → Dalaman Airport (DLM): About 1 h; return the car at the airport, or take a shuttle or taxi

Why I rented a car on the coast. I picked up a car in Antalya and drove the D400 to Kaş and Fethiye, one of the prettiest drives in Turkey. It let me stop at beaches and viewpoints whenever I wanted. If you drop the car off in Fethiye or at Dalaman Airport, check the one-way fee when you book.

Days 1–3: Cappadocia (3 nights)

Three nights gives you two sunrise chances for the balloon flight, which matters because flights are cancelled in strong wind. Stay in Göreme for the easiest access to tours and viewpoints.

Day 1 — Arrive and settle in. Check into your cave hotel and catch sunset at Sunset Point or Uchisar.

Day 2 — Balloons and valleys. Pickup for the hot air balloon is usually before dawn. Book it for your first morning so a cancelled flight can move to day 3. After a nap, visit the Göreme Open-Air Museum and hike the Red & Rose Valleys late afternoon.

Day 3 — Underground and above. Take a guided Green Tour or go on your own to the Derinkuyu or Kaymaklı underground city, then climb Uchisar Castle and walk Love Valley.

Where to stay: Göreme is the most convenient base; Uchisar is quieter with big valley views. Book a cave room for the full experience.

Days 4–5: Antalya (2 nights)

Antalya is the gateway to the coast: an Ottoman old town, a Roman harbour and city beaches in one place. Stay in or near Kaleiçi so you can walk everywhere in the evening.

Day 4 — Travel and Kaleiçi. Fly in from Cappadocia and wander Kaleiçi’s lanes, Hadrian’s Gate and the old harbour at sunset.

Day 5 — Lara Beach. Spend the day at Lara Beach, a long stretch of soft sand east of the city with calm, shallow water. Head back to the old harbour for sunset.

Where to stay: A boutique hotel inside Kaleiçi puts the old town and harbour on your doorstep

Days 6–7: Kaş (2 nights)

Kaş is the slow, small-town stop of the trip: whitewashed streets, clear water and a relaxed harbour. It is also one of Turkey’s best spots for snorkelling and diving.

Day 6 — The coast road. Pick up your rental car in Antalya; the D400 to Kaş follows the sea for much of the way, with plenty of places to pull over. Arrive in time to swim off a rock platform and watch sunset from the harbour.

Day 7 — Meis island day trip. A short ferry crosses from Kaş harbour to Meis (Kastellorizo), a tiny Greek island with pastel houses and harbourside tavernas. Bring your passport, since you leave Turkey for the day, and check the entry rules for your nationality before you go. With an extra day, a Kekova boat trip over the sunken Lycian city is another great outing.

Where to stay: Stay within walking distance of the harbour; small family-run pensions are the town’s specialty

Days 8–10: Fethiye (2 nights)

Fethiye ends the trip with the coast’s most famous lagoon. Base yourself in Fethiye town for restaurants, or in Ölüdeniz to wake up by the beach.

Day 8 — Kaputaş and arrival. On the two-hour drive from Kaş, pull over at Kaputaş Beach, a small cove at the bottom of a cliff staircase, then continue to Fethiye.

Day 9 — Ölüdeniz. Swim in the calm Blue Lagoon.

Day 10 — Heading home. Enjoy a slow breakfast by the water, then drive about an hour to Dalaman Airport for your flight home.

Where to stay: Fethiye town has the most restaurants and boat departures; Ölüdeniz puts you right on the beach

Practical tips

  • Best time to go: Late April–June and September–October are warm enough to swim on the coast without peak summer heat. Cappadocia mornings can be cold, so bring a layer for the balloon.
  • Mobile data: An eSIM set up before you land is the easiest option for maps and ride-hailing.
  • Money: Cards work in most hotels and restaurants; carry some Turkish lira for small shops, buses and tips.
  • Book early: Balloon flights, cave hotels and peak-season boat trips sell out first.
  • Pack: Swimwear, water shoes for rocky beaches, a scarf for mosques, and sturdy shoes for the valley hikes.
  • Travel insurance: Worth it for a road trip and water activities.

Visa rules depend on your passport, so check your government’s travel advice before booking.

FAQ

Is 10 days enough for Turkey? It is enough for one region done well. This plan trades Istanbul for more time on the coast; add 2–3 days at the start if you want Istanbul too.

Should I do Cappadocia first or last? First. The cooler inland stop comes before the beach days, and you end the trip relaxed by the sea.

Do I need a car? Not in Cappadocia, where tours cover the main sights. On the coast I’d recommend one: I rented a car from Antalya to Fethiye, and it made beach stops and viewpoints easy. Buses run the route too if you’d rather not drive.

What if my balloon flight is cancelled? That is why this plan has three nights there. Most companies rebook you for the next morning.
